As the year comes to a close, we want to express our gratitude to everyone who helped further our mission in 2023. As a 100% volunteer run organization, it truly takes a village to further our mission of protecting the world’s ocean, waves and beaches, for all people!
If you aren’t already a Surfrider Miami member, become one today by donating as little as $5. (You can also spread the love by gifting membership to the ocean lovers in your life.)
The Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) is our volunteer-run, water testing, education and advocacy program. Through this program, we educate our community and provide valuable water quality information. Our dedicated volunteers collect samples from over 20 sites in beach, canal and bay locations every Thursday throughout the year and process them at our BWTF lab in Miami Beach.
We are looking to grow our pool of water collector volunteers with a special focus on the Key Biscayne area. If you are interested, please email BWTF@miami.surfrider.org.
Our SEAS Program is a 3-part, Surfrider Miami funded program that’s a path to advocacy and opportunity for our Miami-Dade community. We teach swimming as the "gateway skill", as we know the ability to swim and feel comfortable in the water opens up amazing opportunities for study, employment, sport, leisure and advocacy.
We are in search of a passionate, dedicated volunteer who can help grow the SEAS program throughout Miami-Dade. If you are interested, please email mdcliaison@miami.surfrider.org.
Beach cleanups can reduce litter, protect our ocean and raise awareness about pollution!
We are currently in search of a Beach Cleanup Co-Lead to assist our Beach Guru with cleanups in North & Mid Beach as well as on the mainland. Responsibilities will include organizing and managing cleanups independently and with our broader team.
Our Ocean Friendly Restaurants (OFR) program tackles plastic pollution at its source - one restaurant and one customer at a time! We work to increase consumer awareness to drive behavior change and create a scalable impact.
We are currently in search of an Ocean Friendly Restaurants (OFR) Lead to promote the program to Miami restaurants, certify restaurants through site visits, manage restaurant promotion, and more!
Composting is a sustainable practice that stabilizes organic waste for reuse and binds carbon to soil, rather than releasing it into the atmosphere. Backyard Bin Composting is a great way to dispose of your yard and food waste and convert it into a nutrient rich fertilizer for your garden. It helps you save on monthly disposal fees and fertilizer costs.
If you are a Miami-Beach resident living in a single-family home, you can obtain a FREE* compost bin!
*Supplies are limited. The Backyard Bin Composting Program is funded in whole or in part by a grant from the City of Miami Beach.
