Every year, July 5th marks the dirtiest day on America’s beaches.
After the fireworks have fizzled and the Independence Day celebrations have ended, our coastlines are often left covered in trash. This not only threatens marine life but can also endanger other beachgoers. Thankfully, the ocean has friends who are ready to help. Be a part of Surfrider history – join us as we attempt to make this our biggest single day of cleanups in 2024!
Every year, July 5th marks the dirtiest day on America’s beaches.
After the fireworks have fizzled and the Independence Day celebrations have ended, our coastlines are often left covered in trash. This not only threatens marine life, but costs millions of dollars across the country to clean up. Thankfully, the ocean has friends who are ready to help. Be a part of Surfrider history – join us as we attempt to make this our biggest single day of cleanups in 2024!
Over the past two decades, Surfrider Volunteers have pulled thousands of pounds of trash from our beaches on July 5th.
Single-use plastic foodware, fireworks debris, cigarette butts, balloons, and other trash do tremendous harm to marine wildlife. And no one wants to surf, swim, and play at a beach littered with trash.
By joining Surfrider’s grassroots volunteer community, your efforts will not only leave the beach better than you’ll find it, you’ll also contribute to gathering valuable data about the kinds of trash that litter our beaches. That data helps Surfrider advocate for laws and policies that reduce single-use plastics at the local, state, and national levels.
July 5th is just one day of the thousands of cleanups Surfrider organizes throughout the year – but our work doesn’t stop there.
When you become a Surfrider member, your donation helps fight single-use plastic pollution, protect clean water, and defend of America’s coastlines. Join us and make a difference today!
