Surfrider Foundation in Washington State

Dedicated to the Protection and Enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches

Washington’s outer coast…As beautiful as they come.

History

The Surfrider Foundation was established in Washington in 1995 with a Clean Water Paddle held in Westport, Washington.  Early on the group, including Randy Baugh, Christine Hannah, Kevin Ranker and Mike Wheeler, took on protecting surfing and beach resources in Westport and successfully opposed (along with a variety of other entities) an Army Corps of Engineers proposal to put a rock revetment through the Cove.

Since that time the organization has grown to its present three active chapters (Seattle, NW Straits and the Olympic Peninsula) as well as a presence in many other communities through interested individuals and small groups (check the contacts section for a full list).  We’ve also continued to develop in Oregon and B.C.

We are people of all stripes working to protect what we love about our coasts:  clean water, public access, clean beaches…
