COMPETE, SURF, CREATE FOR A GOOD CAUSE

International Surfing Day Announces Challenges and Prizes

In celebration of International Surfing Day’s 5th anniversary on June 20, Surfrider Foundation chapters and other ocean lovers around the world will be holding three on-site challenges to get beach-goers creating, surfing and competing: Costume Party: Best Costume While Riding a Wave, Most Spots Surfed on ISD: Photo and/or Video Contest, and the Butt Challenge: How Many Cigarette Butts You Can Collect in an Hour.

In addition, ISD “challenge” sponsors are hosting a variety of activities ranging from filmmaking, to beach cleanups, to art and surf contests. This year, “challenges” and prizes are sponsored by Electric, Ocean Minded, Matix, DVS, O’Neill, Reef, Sector Nine, Globe, Vans, Volcom, Body Glove, Patagonia, Billabong, Quiksilver, Rip Curl, Ecousable and DaKine.

“We are very excited to continue the tradition of incorporating ‘challenges’ into International Surfing Day,” says SURFING Magazine’s editor-in-chief Travis Ferre. “The ‘challenges’ are a great way for people to get involved and be creative all while giving back to a good cause, our oceans.”

Founded five years ago by the Surfrider Foundation and Surfing Magazine, International Surfing Day, presented by Monster Energy, unites surfers from around the world in celebration of the sport of surfing. As is tradition with the annual holiday, surfers will do their part to give back to our oceans, waves and beaches through various organized events such as clean-ups and restoration projects courtesy of the Surfrider Foundation.
