Thirty-Three Surfrider Foundation Victories In 2013
As 2013 is coming to a close, we are proud to say that we have had another great year of coastal protection! With more than 250 victories under our belt since 2006, we are proud to say that 33 of those occurred this year. On top of that, we are currently engaging in 80 active campaigns all over the country so we are confident that 2014 will bring continued success.

Protect The Atlantic Ocean From Seismic Testing
Surfrider chapters are opposing a proposal by the federal government to conduct seismic surveys for oil and gas off the Mid- and South Atlantic coast. Seismic airgun testing would cause major impacts to marine wildlife and bring the Atlantic coast closer to the risky practice of offshore oil drilling. Please sign the petition to urge the federal government to cancel plans for seismic exploration in the Atlantic!

Laying Down The Law: This Year's Legal Recap
The legal work at Surfrider Foundation moves at a fast pace; however, we took a few minutes to look back on the year 2013. Some of our top achievements included: the City of Los Angeles becoming the largest city in the U.S. to pass a plastic bag ban, securing protection of federal BEACH Act funding and two important incremental victories in the Strands access issue.

Heavy Rain, Brown Water, Bacteria… Oh My!
The Kaua’i Chapter has been hard at work this past month with heavy rains and the Blue Water Task Force was in full swing. The Chapter tests 20 surf breaks and freshwater streams on a monthly basis and their regularly scheduled water testing coincided with storm conditions last month. The Chapter’s tests were able to prove how dangerous and polluted local waterways and beaches were and Brown Water Advisories were issued.
